Clan MacPherson Youth Piping and Drumming Program

• The youth piping and drumming program is designed for students ages 8-18
• Lessons are open to all students in the Merrimack Valley area and surroundings
• Beginner lessons are on Monday nights from 6:00 – 7:30
• Cost is $45 per month from October to June

Equipment Needed:

• Drum Pad
• Scottish Drum sticks
• Practice Chanter
• Equipment must be purchased through the band and is approximately $60.

What is a Pipe Band?

A Pipe Band is unique compared with other music organizations. As there is only section playing the melody (pipes), there is special concentration on technical, tonal and expressive unison. Rhythmic accompaniment is provided by the drum section, which includes: snare, tenor, and bass drums. The snare section has exceptional technical demands as well and a great emphasis is placed on unison. The tenor/bass section provides a rhythmic foundation and color to the melody line.

The demands a pipe band places on a musician enables them to develop their musical skills to a higher level than they would achieve in a typical school music program. Drumming skills far surpass those developed in even the best school program.
